The State of Things
Vania Rovisco/Maria F. Scaroni (AADK Berlin)
With the creative contribution of Martin Eder, Metka Pretnar and guests from Berlin’s creative community.
“The State (of Things) is a condition, a certain relationship among human beings, a mode of behavior, we destroy it by contracting other relationships, by behaving differently towards one another […] We are the State (of Things) and continue to be the State (of Things) until we have created the institutions that form a real community.”
Gustav Landauer
The State of Things is a performance project that aims to involve individuals into a live creation process. It is not bound to pre-existing conditions, but tends to exploit the given situations. Lately Rovisco and Scaroni have been dismantling the borders between visual art and dance/body work, forging what they call Visual Art Performance.
For Sophiensaele’s Kantine, the creation takes place in a week time, during which a dramaturgy is conceived to orientate the invited guests, and to orchestrate visuals, sounds and body interventions brought before an audience in a unique live event of the duration of 4 hours. The audience is invited to roam within the space, join a cocktail party, contemplate an action or leave and return, therefore autonomously deciding how to position themselves before the work.
