The State of Things

Vania Rovisco/Maria F. Scaroni (AADK Berlin)

With the creative contribution of Martin Eder, Metka Pretnar and guests from Berlin’s creative community.

“The State (of Things) is a condition, a certain relationship among human beings, a mode of behavior, we destroy it by contracting other relationships, by behaving differently towards one another […] We are the State (of Things) and continue to be the State (of Things) until we have created the institutions that form a real community.”

Gustav Landauer

The State of Things is a performance project that aims to involve individuals into a live creation process. It is not bound to pre-existing conditions, but tends to exploit the given situations. Lately Rovisco and Scaroni have been dismantling the borders between visual art and dance/body work, forging what they call Visual Art Performance.

For Sophiensaele’s Kantine, the creation takes place in a week time,  during which  a dramaturgy is conceived to orientate the invited guests, and to orchestrate visuals, sounds and body interventions brought before an audience in a unique live event of the duration of 4 hours. The audience is invited to roam within the space, join a cocktail party, contemplate an action or leave and return, therefore autonomously deciding how to position themselves before the work.

Performance Procedures Propaganda

Maribor, November 8th, 9th, 10th 2011

Performance artists Vania Rovisco/ Maria F. Scaroni (aadk.org) will present different durational works, in various locations – main square, gallery, bar, shop front – in collaboration with invited guests from the city, using visual art performances as a propaganda tool to promote ‘inter-change’ in its most diverse levels. An invitation made both to the artistic community and the citizens of Maribor.

The State of Things is a performance project that aims to involve individuals into a conversation and a creation process. It is not bound to pre-set conditions, but tends instead to use the given situation to create an original dramaturgy for bodies in space. The live events irritate the conventional representation of bodies and their normative social function and foster ambiguity as a viewing mode, multitasking as compositional tactic and multiplicity of associations and aesthetic choices.

Workshop June

Maria F. Scaroni and Vania Rovisco will be giving a workshop in the program P.O.R.C.H. Training Module 1,  Ponderosa – Stolzenhagen, Germany, in June.

zeitgenosissche körper {body_time_space}

The physical body is trained to modulate energy through dynamic meditations and chi cultivation practices, looking at the body-entity as very charged matter able to strategize itself, shifting constantly between being a shape, an image, an object, an animal, a system. Working with and in the space, time and presence, each body will be engaged and challenged in a question-making process concerning improvisation and its tools. How to sustain an improvised thought or action? How such action transposed into the space? How do we engaged composition? How do we engage/regenerate in our own working process?
